Key takeaways

  • Solar PV grant of up to €1,800, now open to homes built and occupied before 2025.
  • New €600 battery grant, open since 6 October 2026. You can claim it even if you already have panels.
  • Up to €2,400 for a new solar and battery system together.
  • Up to €9,000 for homeowners on certain social welfare payments, and free systems under the Warmer Homes Scheme.

What changed for solar in Budget 2027?

The big changes for solar were announced just before the Budget, on 29 September, and came into force on 6 October 2026. Budget 2027 then confirmed funding to keep them going next year, with more than €650 million set aside for home and community energy upgrades.

For homeowners, three things matter most:

  • There's now a grant for home batteries, for the first time.
  • Newer homes can now get the solar PV grant.
  • Lower-income households can get far more support than before.

The standard solar panel grant itself hasn't gone up. It's still up to €1,800.

How much is the solar panel grant?

The SEAI solar PV grant is worked out on the size of your system. You get €700 per kilowatt peak (kWp) for the first 2kWp, then €200 for each extra kWp up to 4kWp. Here's what that looks like in practice:

2kWp system

€1,400

3kWp system

€1,600

4kWp or larger

€1,800

You can install a bigger system than 4kWp, but the grant stops at €1,800.
