What is a Home Energy Assessment?

A Home Energy Assessment is a detailed, in-person assessment of how your home uses energy today. It looks at insulation, heating, ventilation, air leakage and overall heat loss, and includes a BER.

At Churchfield Home Services, the assessment is designed to give you clarity. It explains how your home performs now and what improvements may help, based on how you actually live in the house.

How is a Home Energy Assessment different from a BER?

A BER provides an energy rating for your home at a specific point in time.

Home Energy Assessment includes the BER, but goes much further. It combines a full survey, an on-site consultation and a clear, tailored upgrade plan. Instead of just a rating, you receive guidance you can actually use when planning upgrades.

Is there a grant for a Home Energy Assessment?

Yes. There is a €350 SEAI grant available to support the cost of a Home Energy Assessment.

The grant applies to the assessment itself. It is there to help you get professional guidance before making any decisions about upgrades. There is no obligation to proceed with works after the assessment.

How much does a Home Energy Assessment cost?

The cost of a Home Energy Assessment is based on your house type, not your location.

Apartments and mid-terrace homes typically take less time to assess. Semi-detached and detached homes require a more detailed review due to their size and external exposure. Pricing is the same across all areas Churchfield Home Services covers, with the SEAI grant contribution included. An additional discount is available when booking online.

What happens during the assessment?

Your Home Energy Assessment is carried out by a qualified professional and includes:
  • A review of your home’s construction and layout
  • Inspection of attic, walls and floors
  • Assessment of heating systems and controls
  • Ventilation and airflow checks
  • A discussion about comfort issues, cold rooms or high energy bills

Time is taken during the visit to explain what is being assessed and to answer your questions clearly.

What do I receive after the assessment?

After your Home Energy Assessment, you receive a clear, easy-to-understand report that outlines:
  • How your home is performing today
  • Where energy is being lost
  • Which upgrades may be suitable for your home
  • A recommended upgrade sequence

This report allows you to plan properly, whether you choose to upgrade now or later. This report allows you to plan properly, whether you choose to upgrade now or later.

Does a Home Energy Assessment help with grants?

Yes. A Home Energy Assessment is the first step in confirming which SEAI grants may apply to your home.

If your home is suitable for a One Stop Shop retrofit, the assessment supports access to SEAI grants of up to €36,900, depending on the upgrades recommended. If you are considering a single upgrade only, the assessment still helps confirm eligibility and priorities.

Do I have to upgrade after the assessment?

No. There is no obligation to proceed with any works.

Many homeowners use the assessment to understand their options and plan ahead. If you decide to move forward, you do so with clarity. If not, you still leave with a professional understanding of your home’s energy performance.

Who carries out the Home Energy Assessment?

At Churchfield Home Services, Home Energy Assessments are carried out as part of our registered SEAI One Stop Shop service.

This ensures your assessment, grant guidance and any future upgrades are managed correctly and in line with SEAI requirements, with clear support throughout the process.

What happens next if you want to proceed?

After reviewing your Home Energy Assessment, your upgrade options are explained clearly, applicable grants are confirmed, and the next steps are outlined step by step. There is no pressure to move forward — you can take time to review your plan and return to it when it suits you.

A Home Energy Assessment is about clarity, not pressure. It helps you understand your home properly before deciding what to do next. You can book your Home Energy Assessment online in just a few minutes, with an additional online booking discount available. If you prefer to speak with someone first, our team is available to guide you. Take your first step today and get clear, professional insight into your home’s energy performance.
